2004 Texacaia $16/Amigos* price $14.40
A blend of Sangiovese, Syrah and Tempranillo, Texacaia is our Super Texan! Pronounced: Tex-uh-ki-ya Look for the contributions from all three grapes: the cherry of Sangiovese, the blackberry and pepper from the Syrah and Tempranillo’s blueberry and leather. Great with a variety of foods…true to Sangiovese’s versatility, but try with Italian dishes with tomato and meat sauces or smoked pork with mushrooms.
2002 Rosato di Sangiovese $14 Amigos price $12.60 Full Case price $100 while supplies last.
A real collaboration: this wine is made from grapes grown at four vineyards: Cherokee Creek Vineyards, San Saba County; Akashic Vineyards and Robert Clay Vineyards, Mason County; and some from our vineyard, Tio Pancho Ranch. It’s a wonderfully fruity lighter style Sangiovese, a clear red, not pink, and rich with cherry flavors. It has just a tinge of sweetness in the finish that zings up the fruitiness. This is your picnic wine! It’ll go with everything on the table and everyone at the table will love it!
2004 El Guapo $18 Amigos price $16.20
Tempranillo Blueberries, juniper, chocolate and leather with rich fruit and supple tannins. This is our most talked-about wine, written up in Wine Spectator, Gourmet, Saveur and others. Serve it with a grilled steak and portabellas, a rack of lamb, beef tenderloin or game. Follow up with a rich dark chocolate dessert and continue with the El Guapo for a perfect match.
2004 Jacques Lapin $14 Amigos price $12.60 Full Case price $100 while supplies last
Chenin Blanc! With minerals and lime zest, pine and floral notes, very dry with nice acidity. Wes Marshall called this the best Chenin Blanc he’s ever tasted. From the Texas High Plains. Serve shellfish especially scallops or oysters. It’s also great as an aperitif with hors d’oerves and cheeses.
2007 Viognier Texas High Valley Block, Cherokee Creek Vineyard $18 Amigos price $16.20
A stunning wine with Apricots, honeydew, pineapple. It’s aromatic with a luscious mouthfeel, a long finish and wonderful balance. This fruit came from our neighbor’s vineyard. Serve with shellfish, lighter meats, swiss cheese.
2004 Grenache Rose’ Sec $12 Amigos price $10.80
Our first true rose’, this is redolent of strawberries and vanilla and crisp acidity. Serve with fruit and cheese, hors d’oerves, or with lighter meats, especially provencal fare such as roasted chicken, tapenade and truffeled pasta. A hint of sweetness makes this lovely wine a pretty addition to a holiday table.
2001 El Guapo Grande, $28 Amigos* price $25.20
Extended barrel aged Tempranillo. Our first Grand Reserve style wine. “Grande” had 5 ½ years in barrel aging. It is a field blend of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Cabernet Sauvigno. It maintains the lovely blueberry of our regular El Guapo but with an underlying toasty flavor and mellow tannins and rich mocha. Serve with prime rib. Called “superb” in Wine and Food magazine’s article The Ryder Boys Texas Wine and Barbecue Tour, April 2008
2002 Texas Port $24 Amigos* price $21.60
Our first Port ! made with 100% Grenache from Mason County and fortified with fine brandy, this lovely Port is only slightly sweet. It has dark berry and spicy flavors and ruby color. Wonderful with English Stilton or dark chocolate.
Non Vintage Texas Port $18 Amigos* price $16.20
This port was made with several lots of wines reserved for our port program from three different vintages of Sangiovese, Grenache and Mourvedre. The sweetness level is more typical of ports and it was fortified with the same fine brandy as our vintage port. Nice with chocolate desserts or to sip after dinner with a cigar.
2004 Syrah $20/ Amigos* price $ 18.00
Syrah from our home vineyard, continues to prove that Rhone varieties rule in the Hill Country. This is a ‘jammy’ version with rich fruit and spicy nose, full bodied structure and lingering finish. Serve with a steak or lamb or un-sauced barbecue brisket.
2006 Scissortail $26/ Amigos* price $23.40
Roussanne, Viognier, and Marsanne from Cherokee Creek Vineyards, High Valley Block, comprise this unique (for Texas) blend. A typical combination in the Rhone Valley, this wonderful wine reflects our limestone soils and sun drenched vineyards. It has a tribute to the Scissortail Flycatcher bird on the label…the latest in our Texas Icon series of wines.
2004 Orange Muscat $14/ Amigos* price $12.60 500 ml bottle
Delightful dessert wine made with fruit from the Texas High Plains, this is a Beaume de Venise style Muscat with a bold orange zest aroma, slightly sweet and rich in the mouth. It sings with dark, bittersweet chocolate desserts! But don’t let the sweetness fool you, this is serious wine with a heady 14% alcohol.
Coming Soon: 2006 Palette, our Rhone Red blend from High Valley Block
2005 Syrah, Tempranillo and Texacaia will be bottled and ready for Futures Buyers only in late spring. There will be a small release period for interested purchasers then will be bottle aged for 10 more months before release.
